The holiday season is upon us and that means it is time to travel home. Living over 1,500 miles away from school, getting on an airplane at lease eight times a year, and living in a completely different environment from Syracuse has definitely taught me how to efficiently pack. Here are some tricks I have used during my travel endeavors.
Jam-pack your carry on backpack.
As long as it can fit under the seat, you're golden. I keep everything important in my backpack including my laptop, wallet, snack, important jewelry, medications, and any form of entertainment for my flight. The only downside to doing this is that your backpack will seem to weigh over 300 pounds but hey, you throw your back out everyday trying to lug all of your books around anyways. Plus, it could save you around $25 for not checking another bag.
Stay hydrated.
It is a huge pain in the butt that you cannot take liquids in water bottles through security and that you have to end up paying almost $5 for a bottle of water, but you must stay hydrated. Due to the pressure in the cabin and the altitude that you are at, your body automatically dehydrates. Invest in a huge water from a cafe after you go throw security and sip on throughout the day. If you want to save the extra cash, jut make sure when they offer you a complimentary drink on your flight, you take it.
Roll your clothes.
This may seem odd, but it will save you a headache once you arrive at your destination. Rolling your clothes makes them more compact and you will be able to fit more in your suitcase without having to have someone sit on it to order to get it zipped up. By doing this, your clothes will not wrinkle as bad as they would with folding.
Bring gum.
This is important for multiple reasons. First, you will most likely have people all up in your personal bubble when traveling and it would suck to be the person with the awful smelling breath. Also, chewing gum during take off and landing will help your ears pop while they are adjusting to the drastic change in altitude.
Dress comfy.
This would seem like a no-brainer, but a lot of people do not know how to do this. People assume that they need to dress in nice attire while flying due to all the business men flying in suits. Well, there are ways to dress cute while also being super comfy. Just throw on some leggings, a casual pair of shoes, open cardigan sweater, and a scarf. By doing this, you are dressing in layers and can adjust to the change in weather without completely changing your outfit.
