Last week, I wrote an article about Donald Trump's unbelievable, WWE-esque RNC entrance. I was astounded that a major presidential candidate would pull a move out of The Undertaker's playbook. Then, I realized it was Donald J. Trump who was doing it and I was no longer astounded. It made sense.
Then came Hillary Clinton's DNC "entrance" on Tuesday, July 26. I put entrance in quotes because it wasn't an entrance, per se. She basically ran a video and then Skyped from her home in Chappaqua, N.Y. This was her grand appearance:
It was a super-clever move. She broke the metaphorical glass ceiling and further regurgitated the fact that she's the first female major-party nominee for president. It was, quite frankly, the best P.R. stunt she's pulled.
But then I took a step back and realized that I've seen that move before. It took me a little while to figure out where I'd seen the breaking through the glass, where I'd had the same "oh my God" reaction.
And then I realized that, just as Trump took a play out of the Undertaker's playbook, Hillary took a similar play out of Stone Cold Steve Austin's playbook.
Steve Austin was my favorite wrestler as a youngin, and I credit him with my affinity to crack two beers by smashing them together and drinking them in tandem as such:
Many of you are probably saying, "You chauvinist pig Hillary broke THE GLASS F*CKING CEILING why can't you RESPECT this HISTORIC moment?" I do respect it, but good Lord how have we come to the point where both of the major party candidates are lifting things from WWE?
I mean, look at the video from WrestleMania 13.
That was Stone Cold breaking through glass. However, I think one thing has to be noted. In the context of WrestleMania 13, Trump took the Undertaker's entrance, while Hill took Stone Cold's. I love Stone Cold Steve Austin with all my heart, but he lost at WrestleMania 13. The Undertaker? He won.
Coincidence? I think not. Vince McMahon is controlling this election and we don't even know it. We are all puppets in Vince McMahon's game. What a time to be alive.
