To My High School English Teacher, You Truly Changed My Life

For as long as I can remember I have always had a creative mind. I loved writing and creating fictional stories that most likely didn’t make sense. I had many career paths that I thought about taking but I was never sure on which to pursue until I met someone who would put me on the path that will hopefully land me success in the future.

To My High School English Teacher,

For the first time in high school, I was excited to walk into my English class. I heard so many great things about you. I was ready for a teacher like you to show me my true capabilities as a writer. I walked into your classroom with so much optimism, I knew from the second I sat down in my seat that this class and you would change my life.

I can truly credit you for my writing skills. You took time to edit all of my papers, giving me constructive criticism to make them better. You never failed to tell me that my paper was good, but that I could do better. You showed me how to live up to my true potential as a writer. With your guidance, I soon believed that I could be successful in the field of writing.

I chose the career path I was going to take sitting in your classroom, the place that made me into the writer I am today.

I was lucky enough to have you again as a teacher in my senior year. Another very crucial year in a high schoolers life. I knew that I needed to succeed in your class, but I wasn’t worried. I didn’t think that I could improve any more on my writing, but you proved me wrong once again. You told me I still had a lot to learn, and considering writing was the major I was planning on pursuing, I was excited.

You impacted my writing so much that I made you my mentor for my senior project.

As my mentor, you helped me create a book full of writing that I was proud to show to my family and proud to display for so many people to see. When I found out that I got accepted into Ohio University’s Scripps School of Journalism, I couldn’t wait to tell you. This is such a prestigious program that I would not currently be in without you having such a strong impact on my writing ability.

I know that we have not seen each other in quite some time, so I wanted to catch you up.

I am in school still pursuing my dream career in the field of Strategic Communication, at Ohio University in the Scripps School of Journalism. I have written many papers and gotten many A's. In the first English class of my college experience, I truly felt ahead of the game.

I learned so many things from you and when I was able to answer the questions my professor asked and turn in A+ papers, I couldn’t help but smile. You made me into the writer I am today and because of you, I know I have chosen the right path for my life. Thank you for everything that you have done for me. As you can probably tell from reading this letter, you truly changed my life. I couldn’t ask for a better mentor.

Sincerely,

A Former Student

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
