As a freshman, I lived on the 10th floor of White Hall with my window facing toward Campus Towers. Once I got over the fact that I was 10 stories high, I started appreciating my view. My roommate hated sleeping near windows, so I got that bed. This led to looking out the window a lot to distract me from doing my work. As the days went on, I started to notice I had the perfect view of the sunset every night. I started taking advantage of this. I quickly realized how different every sunset was, and how peaceful it was to just stare at the horizon and watch the sun fade away.
Some nights, I would get lucky and see the moon come out, as well. What really amazed me was how colorful the sky got once the sun set. There were various arrays of pink and orange, and on the spectacular nights (such as the night the Pirates beat the Tar Heels), the sky illuminated purple (how appropriate). It really was the perfect view.
My favorite sunsets are the ones on the beach. There's just something about watching the sun set behind the vast ocean that makes me feel a sense of serenity. But my second favorite place for sunset viewing is right here in Greenville, North Carolina. Something about the sunsets here make every night feel complete. Maybe it's because I spend most of my days in Greenville tucked away in classrooms, or in my room studying, stressing, busily wasting the day away. Nonetheless, the sunsets are magnificent.
Now that I am no longer living in White, I still make the point to see the sunset when I have time and remember. If you haven't ever caught the sunset here, I'm providing some pictures below.
