Here's To High School

High school has been the most chaotic yet beautiful thing for me. Friday nights in the bleachers with my big sister watching our boys hit the "Stag Sign" before running through the band and whirlwind of cheerleaders. Long drives home with my big brother & sister listening to song after song as loud as possible with all the windows down. Teachers who just wouldn't give me a break and put a 0 in for that assignment I just didn't have time to makeup. Skipping half of last period to hang out in the library with my boyfriend only to end being kicked out for laughing too hard. Running through the halls because I wasn't paying attention to the fact I'd be late if I didn't take my nose out of a textbook. Making A's, then making C's then bouncing back. Anxiety attacks and depression. A lot of internal happiness due to the fact I felt fulfilled only to have it taken from me because of some rumor spread about me by a girl jealous of the fact I was dating her crush. Drama, Drama, Drama. Getting caught sneaking into the locker room after hours.

It's the best of time, and it's the worst of times.

So...

Here's to driving that 1970 hand-me-down truck.

Here's to the class you tried your hardest to pass.

Here's to person you thought you'd marry, but you ended up going your separate ways.

Here's to your high school sweetheart.

Here's to your first time drinking.

Here's to Friday nights with your best friends.

Here's to the girl who traded in prom queen for a big city dream.

Here's to all of the mischief you got into.

Here's to growing up.

Here's to getting your first car.

Here's to getting out of your small town.

Here's to the guy who's still calling that first love.

Here's to the girl who went on with her life.

Here's to the crowded hallways and anxiety attacks that came with them.

Here's to the cute guy in your math class who winked at you every time he came in.

Here's to your first summer love.

Here's to your first lie about who you were with.

Here's to all of the secrets you kept.

Here's to the cute substitute teacher who was easily 20 years older.

Here's lunch In the courtyard.

Here's to being late to class.

Here's to getting your diploma.

Here's to the good times.

Here's to high school.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
