Take a moment and reflect upon what exactly you use your brain for.
I'll give you a moment.
Thinking. Your brain is for thinking. It possesses around 100 billion neurons in order for you to process every inch of information you read, any second of words you hear or speak, and any vision you see each and every moment.
Seeing as about half of the things your brain intakes is thought of as negative, not all of your thoughts are going to be sunshine and rainbows, in fact, AT LEAST half of them will be clouds and rain. When we adapt to the habit of checking social media, listening to pandora, and gossiping every moment of the day, our brains are silenced.
In moments of silence--bedtime for most of us--your brain comes to life because it demands to be heard. It is a part of you-no- it is the center of your life. It holds every emotion, every memory, and it must be allowed to breathe. Do not be afraid of sadness, do not be afraid of words, thoughts, or ideas binding you, because nothing binds you. You have control over your body and mind. To whatever extent these thoughts may be, you are not alone.
If you have things keeping you up at night, give yourself 5 minutes of every hour. Whether you're walking to class, getting ready for a party, or sitting on the porcelain throne, think of everything you can, good and bad. Ask questions, think of solutions and plans to attack problems, take a breath and remember this: OVERTHINKING IS NOT REAL. What you think is "overthinking" is simply your brain letting out all of the things you block out each day, and the longer you block it out, the harder it hits you.
Your brain is your friend, and it's the reason you have friends. Let it do its job without labeling it with an imaginary word that presents it as a problem. Always think. Always question. Always feel.
