We live in an age where obesity is becoming an epidemic and the concept of being physically fit is becoming more coveted. Our society glorifies the beauty of flat abs, toned legs and physical endurance and often neglects to recognize that your “health” encompasses all aspects of your being.
You don’t need to strictly slave for hours over weights and treadmills to become healthy. Your physical health can be strengthened by a few very simple, but important, efforts. Drink a full glass of water when you wake up. Eat well and healthy, but eat enough. Severely restricting your calorie intake for the sake of a diet is no more healthy than overeating. Take walks as often as you can, and inhale deeply when you get the fortunate chance to breathe fresh air. Never underestimate the way that nature can improve your mood. You can stay up all night and look at the stars, but make sure you always enough sleep. Force yourself to get out of bed in the morning even though sometimes you really won’t want to.
Challenge your intellectual fitness.
Your brain is a muscle that gets stronger the more you exercise it. Read as often as you can, self-teach yourself a language or take up trying to learn a complex skill. Pick a subject that captivates you and learn everything you can about it. Ask questions, listen to people,On the and learn. Share your own experiences and listen to others’, and never demean someone based upon their apparent intelligence. Everyone has something they can teach you, whether it is obvious or not. Always take advantage of an opportunity to learn something new or teach what you know.
Exercise your personality.
When you walk, pick your head up. Look at what is in front of you instead of what’s on the ground. Try to smile at strangers, even if you’d rather stare at your feet. Practice patience and thoughtfulness. Make a habit out of trying to brighten someone else’s day. Figure out what you love to do and who you want to be, and devote yourself to pursuing it. Set character goals which are intimidating, but benevolent.
Before you devote your schedule to going to the gym every day, recognize that there are more aspects to achieving overall health and wellness than just physical appearance. In the grand scheme of things, your complete health cannot be accomplished without also dedicating time to your entire character.
