Whether your major is Exercise Science or it's Art History, keeping yourself healthy and fit is a vital life skill that everyone should have. At my university it is required we take a Health and Fitness class before we graduate. Some may find this requirement tedious or insignificant to their major. But in fact, the topic of health and fitness is incredibly important for everyone and something we should talk about more.
As students in colleges and universities, there are many temptations and obstacles that can impede us from reaching our health and fitness goals. Here are some of those struggles that students face every day
1. The Dining Danger Zone
The dining Hall is usually the place college students convene at, for meals as well as the social environment. However, the dining hall often spells trouble for those looking to eat healthy, especially if your options look like this:
Yeah... the pizza wins today, sorry salad bar.
2. Gymming
Going to the gym and continuing to go can be hard, but it can be easier to stay motivated if you go with friends. Of course, you may run the risk of seeing people you know but don't necessarily want to talk to...
3. The Dorm Room is a Trap
The dorm room can often be a place where junk food and excessive snacking lives. Even if you weren't hungry, those chips look pretty good so why not have a few, or 10, or a family sized bag?

4. Stress, Studying, Papers, Stress
The stress of school and final exams can get to be overwhelming at times.
5. Late Night Food Runs
You got some Domino's on Monday and Subway on Tuesday and Taco Bell yesterday, now it's Thursday and you can't remember the last time you ate a vegetable. Your wallet is hurting by now, in addition to your clogged pores.
6. It's College
In college, you're surrounded by bad lifestyles, and that makes it harder to break away and be healthier. Frequent heavy drinking and staying up late can become habits quickly and when everyone around you appears to be making bad decisions it's much easier to justify going along with them. Practice surrounding yourself with people making healthy choices and you'll be drawn to make healthier decisions as well.
