In this day and age, we're all connected to each other, whether it be Facebook, Snapchat, Twitter -- you name it. And if we're not connected through technology, then we surround ourselves with people for fear that we might look totally lame if we're seen as the "loner kid."
But what people don't seem to realize is that they're spending so much time trying to avoid the FOMO (fear of missing out) that they're neglecting time to be with themselves. There are so many benefits to taking time for yourself, physically, mentally, and emotionally.
Taking time for yourself gives you a chance to breathe.
People are exhausting, especially if you spend so much time with them. But when you have time for yourself, you're able to give your social skills a break and just relax. You'll be able to re-center yourself, and then possibly gain enough energy to go back into your social world. But hey, there is no time limit on relaxation.
You don't have to please anyone but yourself.
When you have alone time, you literally can do whatever you so please. Want to eat a whole tub of ice cream? Go ahead! Feel the need to dance to your favorite bop? Do it! Do you just want to crash on the couch and never return? Treat yourself! No one is going to stop you from doing what you want when you have alone time, so take advantage of it.
Things can get done.
Sure, group study sessions are fun and grocery shopping with friends is always a blast, but let's get real for a second. Do you always get things done? Maybe sometimes, but not always. When you're alone, you get to work at your own pace and you get to focus on one goal, which is yours. You don't have to waste time waiting for other people to get to the point where they need to be, and instead, focus on where you alone need to be.
It makes you appreciate the people in your life more.
I found that the relationships I hold close to me are the ones that doesn't need my constant attention. Being around people all the time makes you lose sense of how much they mean to you. The excitement of seeing the same people every day diminishes and relationships are strained. Taking time from people will make you glad to see them the next time around. Like what people say, you don't know what you've got until it's gone and absence makes the heart grow fonder!
