You get a best friend for life
Having a lil sis is like getting a built-in, automatic best friend. Since the day they joined the fam, it became you and her against the world. You always had someone to play Barbies with, always have someone to call, and will always have someone to back you up in a fight. Sure, a lot of sisters go through fights and phases, but deep down you always have each other’s backs. It’s nice to know that no matter how friendless you feel, you can always hang with your sis.
You also have a built-in pain in the butt
Everyone needs their alone time, and little sisters have a sixth sense for figuring out when that is and deciding that it is time they need to spend with you. No matter what your plans were, you better reschedule because it just became sister time. Little sisters know you too well and can push just the right buttons, knowing how and what annoys you most. This also means they know just what to do to make you forgive them.
You get to be in charge (kind of)
Once you got old enough, you became the babysitter, which in theory meant that you were in charge. Only in theory, because it was a rare day that you could get her to do anything that you wanted. Getting a driver's license before her was the most "in charge" you ever were.
They always get what they want
Little sisters get away with everything. Every older sibling knows the frustration that comes with parents blaming you for something they did because you should have known better. Parents tend to baby the younger siblings and expect the older kids to be more mature. Not only that, but younger sisters will always "out-cute" you.
You get to be someone’s role model
Every little sister will deny this, but every little sister looks up to her big sis. Older sisters don’t always realize it right away, and it can be tough to always be the best big sister out there. They may come to you for advice or ask your opinion, but it’s a different kind of cool to know that at some point you were the raddest person to your little sis (even if she never admits it).
You get to worry like a mom before you become one
Having a little sister that looks up to you makes you look out for her. You become protective and the first time someone hurts her, you become irrationally angry. Just like a mother coming to terms with her baby growing up, a big sis has to come to terms with the fact that we can’t always protect our baby sisters. What we can do is be there for them -- and possibly punch whoever made her cry.
