For as long as I can remember, my birthday has come on Thanksgiving break, so I never really get to celebrate my actual birthday.
Even this year, the company I bought my car from sent me a holiday discount card... I thought it was a birthday card. So I was mildly disappointed.
Last year my birthday fell on the Friday before Thanksgiving break, so we decided to have a party before everyone went home. Mother nature had other plans and threatened us with 8 inches of snow, forcing everyone to go home early. I encouraged people to beat the storm, but if mother nature would have made the snow come later, that would have been great.
I never really celebrate my birthday on the day it was--maybe it's that way for everyone, but during the holidays it is different because normally family comes to town. My family consists of a mom and dad with 7 brothers and sisters each. So the birthday party gets pretty big.
Having a birthday near this is great and all, but during the fall and beginning of winter it's tough because in college we get a full week off for Thanksgiving. This allows students to spend time with family and share memories. It's nice to celebrate with family, but spending it actually on my birthday would be great.
I'm sure I share the same feelings with friends who have birthdays near holidays that don't get to celebrate their birthday actually ON their birthday.
Happy birthday-ish to us.
