Hate Cannot Be Cured By Hate

Fight fire with fire and you get burned.

Hate Cannot Be Cured By Hate

Just this past week, we have all heard the horrific news of Alton Sterling’s death in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Although I completely speak through opinion, based on no other facts than what the two released videos have shown, I do believe foul play was involved. Watching the video I squirm with sympathy and anger. There are bad people in this world, but we have to remember there are good people too. We cannot fight hate with hate. That will only result in a bigger flame. Martin Luther King jr. knew this, he knew the most effective way is through peaceful protest and it worked. Today we have hurt and confused young ones who act out their anger in wrong ways. They feel as though they are hunted by the color of their skin. We must remember instead of pulling away and segregating once again, we should all come together to overcome this. King marched along sides of blacks and whites, side by side they fought for freedom together. You aren't born being racist, you learn it by people who teach you there is a difference. This shouldn't be a war on race, this should be a war on bad people.

As I am writing this I just got notifications SIX DPD officers shot and counting during a protest. What did that accomplish? What point are you making? What does burning businesses in your own neighborhood and taking innocent lives have to do with skin color discrimination. Nothing. Do not justify a bad action, with a bad action. Shooting those police officers doing there job to protect you everyday and countless others does nothing but make you a criminal just like what you are accusing them for. No race/minority/culture should associate a whole group of people as being one thing. Such as cops being murderers. When you are in trouble who do you call? The police, the same police who are constantly stereotyped in this modern time as the killers. Why do you stereotype them because of the idea they could be stereotyping you? This whole thing is a contradiction. There are good and bad people. End of story. Unite, don't fight.

Notice this is all happening right around the Hillary scandal. I am glad this story is getting headlines because justice shall prevail, but as bad as this sounds white cops kill black lives and black cops kill white lives and any other race pair you can come up with, EVERYDAY. Its tragic its sad, but it is true. Now I admit I am a crazy nut when it comes to politics. However why this story at this time, out of all of the cases everyday? Once again I am glad and feel as though it is needed but what if they want us to focus on so much hate for each other, that we forget the crime our possible next president has committed. Just a thought. I am sure in the following weeks, we will hear of more lives lost to the flames of anger. I urge each person reading this to act in love. Make this tragic loss to support one another no matter race and come together as a nation, not nationality. The only way to fight this pain and anger is to show love for one another. I know this world is corrupt, but do not blame a whole group of people on the actions of bad ones. I will continue to pray for Mr. Sterling, his family, the unity of human beings and the police officers who risk their lives everyday to protect us. God Bless.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
