Brace yourselves, ladies and gentlemen because this one is a heartbreaker: Harry Styles is officially leaving One Direction. I know. I know. I couldn’t believe it myself at first but after some serious research, the news is unfortunately true. It was confirmed by Billboard on Thursday that Harry Styles has signed a solo contract with Columbia Records. Harry Styles is not the first member to leave the band, seeing as Zayn Malik left in 2015, but this is so much worse. After Malik left 1D, the rest of the boys still carried on to make "Made In the A.M." (which is arguably their best album yet), with just the remaining four members, however after that album was released, the band decided to take a “hiatus.” A hiatus is never really good for any musical group, but it gave us fans hope that Harry, Louis, Liam and Niall would come back together a year from now and give us another album we've all dreamed of. As the band has dwindled to three, a return from One Direction doesn’t look promising.
But let’s get back to Harry. During his time away from the band Harry Styles has found another interest in acting and has a role in the Christopher Nolan, World War II drama, "Dunkirk." This wasn’t a huge surprise considering many stars often have singing and acting careers. I mean, look at stars like Olivia Newton-John, Julie Andrews or Justin Timberlake). But then he had to go and break the heart of millions of One Direction fans (myself included) by going solo. I guess I understand where Styles is coming from. He did always seem to be the unspoken leader of the band and always sang the best parts of the songs, but why couldn’t he just stick it out long enough for one more album?! I don’t know, maybe it’s the fact that he signed a solo contract with the same label of his former band that isn’t sitting well with me, but I am just sad to see One Direction fizzle out like this.
From "That's What Makes You Beautiful" to more recent hits like "History," I have been a die-hard One Direction fan (except for the album "Four"... Sorry, guys. That was a stinker). Rather than dwell on the past, I suppose I am excited to see what Harry is going to do on his own in the coming years. Hopefully, he does just as well or even better than Zayn Malik who has a pretty decent hit single and a super gorgeous girlfriend. As for the remaining One Direction members, I don’t know what you are going to do considering your two arguably best singers are gone but keep doing what you’re doing, and I’ll still listen if y’all make another album. Harry, if you are reading this I wish you the best of luck. And thanks for cutting your hair. It seriously looks so much better now.
