The other day I was at work, and like any other day, I was on my regular routine of cutting bread and talking to people when a little girl came up to me and asked for a cookie. I politely said "Sure what kind" and she told me a chocolate chip cookie. When I handed her the cookie, her face lit up with excitement and she said "Look mommy! I have a cookie!"
After she left, I started to think: A simple chocolate chip cookie made her happy. As we grow older, we do not find happiness in the simplest things anymore. It seems that now we find it in receiving money, or other material objects. However, if we take a step back, we can find true happiness in the simplest of things.
Happiness is... Coming home and finding leftovers in your fridge, meaning you do not have to cook a lot of food that night. Sometimes after a long, stressful day, it is nice to come home and find that you have time to relax and enjoy the night.
Happiness is... Seeing someone in the grocery store you haven't seen in a while and catching up on what's been going on.
Happiness is... Volunteering to help the less fortunate. I personally know that the times I am able to give someone else the gift of joy and love, it makes me happy.
Happiness is... Taking that breath of relief after you complete a difficult task. When all of the hard work you put into something finally pays off, and you can say "I did it", that's the moment you live for.
Happiness is... Only what you make it. We, as individuals, are the only ones who can find true happiness. Find what makes you happy, and pass the happiness onto others as well.
