Happiness is a word that people have many different meanings for. To one person, happiness may be having tons of money. To another person, happiness can be having someone who simply loves them. By definition, "happiness" is the emotional or mental state of someone's well being or pleasant emotions, ranging from contentment to intense joy. The definition itself states that it is an emotional state, which can also be defined as your mood. This is what people tend to lose track of when searching for happiness. Happiness is not the goal in your life and the point in your life that you are trying to reach. It is not your destination. Happiness comes along through your journey in life while trying to reach the destination God has in store for you. In "One Tree Hill", one of the characters stated that "Happiness is not a destination. It is a mood, it is not permanent. It comes and goes and if people thought that way then maybe people would find happiness more often." Ever since I heard that quote, my thoughts on being happy changed. God knows what will make you happy and what will bring you joy in your life, and until you place your life into God's hands and let Him lead the way, then you will find the happiness you are searching for. Happiness, like all other moods, can be taken away from us in a heartbeat. You can think you are on top of the world in happiness and then you hear some bad news and the happiness is gone. It is okay that your happiness is gone because it is just another emotion in our lives. I feel like when people say they just want to be happy in life, they are truly saying they want to be satisfied with the life they have. They want a life in which they feel like they don't have to escape from and a life that they can go to sleep at night without any complaints. Happiness can be found in many different aspects of life, but it is not a literal place of being. Happiness will not be handed to you. Finding your happiness in life takes time, effort, and prayers. One Tree Hill also stated that "Happiness isn't cheap, hell if it was, we would all be smiling." Do not expect happiness unless you take the initiative to go and work for your happiness. Get rid of the things in your life that cause stress or drama. Get rid of the toxic things in your life and focus on yourself. Focus on your relationship with God when you are looking for your happiness in life. God wants to see you smile and wants you to be happy, but He wants that reason to start with Him. Base your future and your goals on living for God and the happiness that you are searching for and the happiness that you pray for in your life will come. You will find your peace in life and you will have God to thank for it.
