Happiness is subjective in its nature. It is a mental or emotional state of well-being felt by positive or pleasant emotions. There is no one sign that is the be-all end-all of happiness. It all comes down to the person and what they are passionate about. I am not even sure if we always know when we are happy. How should we know? Happiness is not just a FedEx package that is delivered at your front door. It is something that is complex. However, there are a few signs that hint that you may be riding on the happiness train.
1. Every little thing that happens to you is seen positively.
“It's not what happens to you, but how you react to it that matters." I believe truer words have never been said. It has been shown that some people who face severe hardships are happier than some celebrities or someone who had won the lottery a year before. Happiness isn’t about money, materials or what is handed to you in life. Happiness is about what you make of the situation you are in and the perspectives you gain from them.
2. You are living in the present moment.
You are not caught up with what everyone else is doing. This means no FOMO. You are living in the present moment and the only thing you care about is what is occurring at that time and place, and who you are experiencing it with. You are not sitting around thinking about everything you’re missing out on, or how your life does not compare to others. Realize how blessed you are with what you do have. You don’t want to be anywhere else but in your own shoes.
3. You are genuinely happy for other people.
Happiness is when you care about others. The happiest people I know are the most selfless people who truly care about the well-being of their friends and family. The people who care most about the happiness of others around them end up being the happiest ones of all.
4. You are thankful and give back.
It is not always easy to give back to others, or to even give sincere appreciation. When you are grateful for the things you have and the people in your life, this takes the form of sharing that gratitude -- you are happy. There’s a fine line between "sucking up" to someone and handing out honest approval to the people who deserve it. When you are happy with others, you will feel a need to give back and it will make you feel even better and deeply fulfilled. Happiness is contagious -- when you are happy, it spreads to others.
