"Happiness is a mood and it's a condition, not a destination. It's like being tired or hungry, it's not permanent, it comes and goes and that's okay. And I feel like if people thought of it that way they'd find happiness a lot more often" -Brooke Davis
I guarantee almost every teenage girl that has watched One Tree Hill has heard this quote and somewhat reflected on it. For me, this quote changes my whole perspective.
Sorry for getting personal, but, I have had my fair shares of relationships, like any other seventeen year old girl. I have also had my fair share of happiness within those relationships. I wish I would have been able to hear this quote before I went through all the break up and heartaches. Like any other girl, I thought each break up was the end of the world and that there was absolutely no way I was ever going to be happy again. I always thought that once you're happy that happiness will stay there forever, and I was sure wrong.
I am not writing this article to say that boys suck and will never make anyone happy, because that's not true. I was in a happy mood, and a happy condition during those times of my life. But as the relationship began to fall through, so did my happiness. Because of the quote listed above, I realized that it is okay for that to happen.
I am writing this article for all the other girls and women who have never heard or read that quote anywhere. For me, this quote spoke mountains. I have learned to control my happiness and to not allow that mood or condition go away due to some breakup. With or without a significant other, everyone deserves to be happy, and it is important to be so.
I hope this quote and this article help those who are feeling down, lonely, and unhappy. All I ever want to be is happy and I hope you do too!
With Love,
Alicia
