The good and the bad.

Well, it's Monday. I have 33 thousand things to get done in the next 24 hours and sitting in my house is NOT an option. I need an iced coffee in one hand a delicious pastry in the other. I need a coffee shop atmosphere and soft tunes.

So, what do I do? I make the usual commute across town to a coffee shop. Sometimes, it's a local mom and pop location. Other times, it's one of many Starbucks or Panera locations. Nevertheless, I still encounter the following people and experience the following events:

1. Parking is stupidly stressful.

I mean, is it really that hard to park in a straight line???

2. I walk in and all of the "good" tables are taken.

Sometimes, they aren't. That's a good day!

3. When I walk in and the door bell jingles, everyone and even the 2-month-old baby in the stroller look at me.

Hi. Hello. Can I help you?

4. The girl in front of me is mad because her coffee isn't black enough, the guy behind me is condescendingly tapping his foot and looking at his watch, and the mom behind him is mad because "these millennials have no idea what they're doing."

This actually happened.

5. I order my coffee and muffin and everything is okay in the world again.

I mean, I'm a completely different person.

6. Girls talk so loud that EVERYONE looks up/gets frustrated.

So, obviously, everyone puts in their headphones.

7.I have to find the PERFECT seat.

The one right there isn't going to work because the table is too small and I have 13 million books with me and my laptop. Oh, that one looks goo- *someone walks in and immediately steals it* Okay, the one by the window. Yes, that'll be cozy.

8. *30 minutes later*

I am shivering.

9. A girl with a beautifully perfect outfit walks in.

Hi. Teach me your ways.

10. Someone walks in and says, "Could I just have 14 shots of espresso, please?"

Same, dude. Same.

11. A cute family with sweet babies walks in.

Hi. What´s your baby´s name?

12. An important man in an expensive suit walks in talking loudly on his phone.

His suit probably cost more money than I have in my bank account.

13. Fellow students walk in and find a table.

Hi!

14. There's always that one worker who talks WAY too loud about his/her personal problems.

Eh.

15. Someone ALWAYS has their music too loud.

I may or may not be guilty of this myself.

16. Then, there's the person who just sits on their phone the WHOLE TIME. Never even buys a drink/pastry.

I guess the wifi is just that good???

17. I have a GREAT morning/afternoon.

I love going to a coffee shop to crank out important papers, tasks, etc.

I even hope to open my own coffee shop one day!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
