Lettering has gotten to be a huge business over the last year. From signs in Hobby Lobby to calligraphy accounts on Instagram, you can find lettering almost anywhere you go. Here are a few steps you can take to start lettering on your own!
Print a calligraphy alphabet
Make sure it's a font you like, and practice writing each letter over and over again. Buy a special notebook just for lettering because you'll need a lot of space and it's fun to look back on your progress.
Buy Brush Pens
I personally prefer Tombow and Faber-Castell brush pens, but there are many other brands of brush pens you can find at a local art store. Practice writing the letters with the pens. This is a great tutorial for brush calligraphy:
Choose a Substrate
Once you feel you've mastered lettering, choose a specialty within lettering you'd like to sell. Some examples: canvases, wedding invitations, wood slices, journals, agate stones, and metal signs.

Build Your Business
Have a logo. Make an Instagram page, advertise on Facebook, and make some business cards. Be sure to be aware of any craft fairs in the area to showcase your work and sell it. Make sure you have a mission statement and/or cause for your business. Don't ever be discouraged, work hard, practice, and take risks!
