John and Hank Green can be considered internet royalty. They have built a YouTube empire and have united millions of people together from around the world. Here is a rundown of some of the many things these brothers have been up to since they entered the internet space.
1. Vlogbrothers
On Jan. 1, 2007, Brotherhood 2.0 was launched. For the 2007 year, John and Hank would only communicate via YouTube videos on their channel, Vlogbrothers. After the year ended, the Green brothers continued to create content on this channel and still do so to this day. Through this channel, Hank and John’s community was born, adopting the name “Nerdfighteria.” Today, the Vlogbrothers channel has almost three million subscribers. Never underestimate the power of Nerdfighteria. They currently sponsor their own football club in England, AFC Wimbledon.
2. Project for Awesome
The Project for Awesome was born out of the Vlogbrothers channel, first happening in December 2007. This event asks YouTubers to create videos promoting their favorite charities, then which viewers vote on which ones are their favorite. At the end of the 48-hour event, the money raised goes to the top voted charities. The 2015 Project for Awesome raised over $1.5 million to help the world.
3. Crash Course
As college students, most of you have probably used "Crash Course" to cram for a test. This educational YouTube channel is also run by the Green brothers. There are 17 seasons of "Crash Course" to date, covering subjects from physics to world history. There is even a kid’s series. With over four million subscribers, "Crash Course" has helped a lot of students pass their exams.
4. Other YouTube Channels
There are so many other YouTube channels that John and Hank Green are associated with. Sci Show is a very popular one, in which Hank discusses various topics in Science. Healthcare Triage is another, which covers popular questions regarding healthcare. 5. John’s Books
Yes. John Green is the writer of several popular Young Adult novels. They include "The Fault in Our Stars," "Looking For Alaska," "Paper Towns," "An Abundance of Katherines," "Will Grayson, Will Grayson" and "Let It Snow." Many people do not realize that the guy behind their favorite read is also the one helping them pass their history test.
6. Hank’s Music
Hank is also a talented musician, starting out by writing quirky songs to share on YouTube. In 2008, he released his first studio album, which reached number 22 on the Billboard Top 25 Revenue Generating Albums online. Since then, he has released four other studio albums. In his last album, "Incongruent," he debuted with his new band, Hank Green and the Perfect Strangers.
7. VidCon
VidCon is an annual conference for the online video community. It was started by the Green brothers in 2010 and has grown into a huge event, attracting an abundance of internet celebrities.
