Many of us have succumb to the temptations that accompany spring break. We spend weeks, sometimes months before the vacation working out and dieting to look perfect in a bikini on the beach. But when the countdown ends and you are finally on spring break, the temptations start to sink in. Churro's, shaved ice, shots, tacos, burgers, more shots, pizza, you name it. There is absolutely no way you can stick with your healthy habits. So if you're looking to detox after spring break or to just start living healthier, now is the time. Spring break has past and Summer is approaching, live happier.
Eat Healthier or More Natural:
Start your detox by eliminating processed food, lowering the amount of sugar you eat and avoiding anything fried. Try to stick with primarily vegetables, fruits, grilled chicken, nuts and beans. Being in school, eating a healthy diet is extremely difficult, but having an awareness of things you are eating and limiting your intake of unhealthy foods will not only help you lose weight, but leave you more energized and keep your skin clear. Not to mention avoiding those late night cravings while you study. Stop eating after 8 p.m. and avoid those late night Papa John's runs, and you will literally watch the pounds fall off.
Drinking A Lot of Water or Teas:
Consuming excessive amounts of alcohol, like many do over spring break, will dehydrate your body. The best fix for this is drinking a lot of water. The average person is supposed to consume around three liters of water daily. This helps better digestion, makes you feel full and prevents dehydration. Now, green tea, black tea and most decaffeinated teas also promote better health. In fact, green tea, has ingredients that increase fat burning, better your brain function and help your overall physical wellness. Green tea is considered one of the healthiest drinks on the planet.
Sleep:
During Spring Break, many of us miss out on a lot of necessary sleep. Humans need six to eight hours of sleep a night in order to function to their fullest ability. By sleeping more, not only will you feel more energized, but more sleep will help keep you get in better shape, make you get sick less and give you better focus in class. A lack of sleep causes your metabolism to slow down and you to gain unwanted weight.
Exercise:
It's important to do a High Intensity workout at least once a week, along with several cardio workouts to increase your metabolic rate. Any workout that will make you sweat for an hour, whether that's spin, hot yoga, sprints or just running to and from class, works. The Kayla Itsines, Bikini Body Guide is a great exercise plan to stay in shape or to lose weight and it gives you a great workout. It is crucial if you're trying to lose weight or just feel healthier and happier that you exercise. Like Elle Woods says, “Excercise builds endorphins, endorphins make you happy, happy people don't shoot their husbands, they just don't." Remember the number one rule of working out, like your diet, is energy in energy out. So all the working out in the world won't help you if you don't change your eating habits.
Lower your Stress:
Do your best to manage your time well, don't spend all your time out with friends, but also don't spend all your time studying. Balance is extremely important. By making to-do lists or having a daily planner to help you schedule out your time, knowing when to work and when to play will help you manage your stress. With finals coming in just a few short weeks, your need to manage your time wisely is increasing. Eating healthier, sleeping more, and exercising will also simultaneously help you to lower your stress levels as well.
Whether the detox is to improve your health, help you lose weight or just promote better habits, going through with it will not only make you feel better about yourself, but also perform better in school. Living healthier makes school a more enjoyable and happy place and helps you feel good going into summer with a flawless bikini bod and honestly isn't that all we really want?
