We’ve all been there - we’ve either used a ridiculous pickup line on someone, or been the victim of an embarrassing one-liner. I don’t even know how people came up with some of these, but needless to say, they’re hilarious. And hey, if it feels right and you decide to actually use one of these on someone, maybe it could lead to something? Or not…
Apparently restaurants are a great place to pick up people, especially during a shift, as Jo Jensen from Kappa Kappa Gamma experienced.
“I work at a restaurant, and one day a new server came up behind me and tapped me on the shoulder," Jensen recalled. "When I turned around he introduced himself and handed me one of those small white packets on tables that say ‘Sugar’ in bold blue letters. He noticed I looked confused, winked and said, ‘You dropped your name tag.’ ”
If you’re feeling super flirtatious and want to show someone how much you know about human anatomy, this one liner is so for you: “Hey girl, are you my appendix? Because you give me this weird feeling that makes me want to take you out.” (Peder Norr, Sigma Chi)
Compliments are also a great way to make someone feel a little extra special, as Matt Gulp of FIJI demonstrates: “I think there’s something in your eye… oh wait, it’s just a sparkle.”
Sometimes the pickup line isn’t the worst part, but the actual date is when everything goes violently wrong, as it did for Kayleen Derusha from Kappa Kappa Gamma.
“One time I went on a first date with this guy at a super fancy restaurant and got my purse stuck in one of those doors that you have to push and walk in a circle to get through," Kayleen said. "I then was stuck, and when I finally was unstuck, I literally fell out of the doors and into the restaurant. Everyone was staring.”
If you’re feeling particularly confident in yourself, stating something aggressively forward is always a great way to start, as Will Olsen of Sigma Phi Epsilon demonstrates: “I can't help but notice you look a lot like my next girlfriend.”
Michael Black of Sigma Chi thought this one was an especially clever way to reference pop culture whilst attempting to flirt: “Are you Stacy’s mom? Because you’ve definitely got it goin’ on.”
If you’re feeling flirty and you’re struggling to construct a funny pick up line, attempting to rhyme some words to create a funny little pun is always a great way to start. For example: “Have you been to the doctor lately? ‘Cause I think you’re lacking some vitamin me.” (Grant Nagel, Pi Kappa Alpha)
Or: “Girl, are you a beaver? Cause damn.” –(Zach Soderberg, FIJI)
Whether it be your place of employment, or any other unexpected venue, there’s really a place for every strange pick up line. I advise you to maybe not use any of these, but hey, if you’re feeling frisky and the feeling's right, then you do you. You never know what could happen from a weird/strange/awkward one-liner.
