When I Grow Up

When I Grow Up

When you're little everyone tells you that you can be anything that you want to be as long as you set your mind to it. I remember when I was little getting asked that question: What do you want to be when you grow up? My response was a lawyer or a famous soccer player. At such a young age, you honestly believe that you can be those things but as you begin to grow up those ideas kind of start to fade away.

Now, I am not saying that you can’t be those things because obviously you can, if you couldn’t then there wouldn’t be people who do those jobs. I guess what I am getting at is as you grow up you realize how much work has to go into certain degrees or how much determination goes into being a professional athlete. The other thing you are told as you grow up is it is not about how much you make, but it is about enjoying what you're doing. The only issue is money kind of determines a lot of things in your life, so then you begin to realize how much money you can make during some jobs and what you can make for other jobs. One of the final things you have to think about when deciding what you want to do when you grow up is the probability of getting a job in your field.

All of these things are important considerations, but the main determination on what you want to do is what makes you happy. I was once told you can have the possibility of never working a day in your life if you enjoy what you're doing and I have never thought a statement has been more true.

I chose to be an engineer and to be honest I don’t know exactly if it is what I want to do or exactly why I chose it. I guess for me with the idea of an engineer I thought that my opportunities were endless and I could do basically anything. I liked the idea of being able to move up in the world and maybe eventually doing something big.

My goal is to eventually run my own business and be the CEO of a company and I know any normal person would tell me to keep dreaming and that the probability of that happening is just as slim as becoming an actress or professional athlete. But, sometimes, we still have to believe that the world is at our hands and we just have to grab ahold and we still have to believe that we can do anything we want. Yes being a CEO takes all of those considerations but the reason I want to run my own business is because I like the idea of being in control and the idea of having no one to listen to and making all of my own descions.

The one thing to remember is your first job you may have right after college might not be your long time career and always have an open mind but know where you want to go in your life.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
