Some of the Greatest Disney Channel Original Movies

My personal favorite blasts from the past.

Some of the Greatest Disney Channel Original Movies
The Daily Campus

If you grew up in the late 90s/early 2000s, you most likely watched a lot of Disney Channel. The Disney Channel shows and movies of yesteryear were so much better than what they have now, and we all fondly remember the things we loved to watch. I'm sure you also remember this:

Let's all take a trip back to elementary school, and talk about some of Disney's best movies (in no particular order). This is in no way a comprehensive list since there were so many good ones, but these were my personal favorites.

1. Cadet Kelly (2002)

The movie where Hillary Duff went to military school. This movie was all about girl power and the importance of friendship and family. Also, we got to see our favorite girl in a role other than Lizzie McGuire. Speaking of which...

2. The Lizzie McGuire Movie (2003)

Lizzie and Gordo finally kissed! And in Italy! We all waited through how many seasons of the show for that to happen?

3. High School Musical (2006)

This was probably the last of the great Disney Channel movies, but it was one of the biggest parts of our childhoods. I remember my entire 4th grade class dancing and singing "We're All in This Together" at the end of the school day not long after the movie came out.

4. The Cheetah Girls (2003)

This movie provided us with some of the best dance music and the best matching outfits of the early 2000s. All about girl friends and music, this was definitely a winner.

5. Motocrossed (2001)

I supposed I just had a thing for these girl-power themed movies, but it was totally cool that Andi even cut her hair just to be able to race motorcycles in her brother's place.

6. The Luck of the Irish (2001)

As someone who takes pride in being Irish, I always found this movie so hilarious in its exaggeration of Irish stereotypes. Don't worry, we don't actually turn into leprechauns, but it is still super entertaining to watch.

7. Stuck in the Suburbs (2004)

To be honest, I kind of forgot about this one until I was browsing the Web for information on some of these older movies. But this one definitely got our hopes up that out favorite guy singer would come to our hometown and somehow run into us.

8. Kim Possible Movie: So the Drama (2005)

Kim Possible was everyone's favorite animated evil-fighting cheerleader, so we were all thrilled about this movie. The fact that it was about Kim Possible, says enough about how great it was.

9. Gotta Kick It Up! (2002)

Did you forget about this one? I did too, but I loved this movie. A group of Latin American girls at a Southern California high school start a dance team and deal with rejection, hardship, not-so-nice boyfriends, yet overcome every obstacle in their way. Si, se puede!

10. Go Figure (2005)

As a little girl, I thought ice skating was the coolest thing ever, so that made this movie the coolest thing ever. Especially since Kristi Yamaguchi made a cameo in it.

I hope you enjoyed this trip down memory lane! Feel free to share your own favorite Disney Channel Original Movies in the comments!

Parks and Recreation excitedly gathered around a laptop at a table in an office setting.

The library. Club lib. The place every college student goes when they want to try and be a productive member of society. Who better to explain your experience than Parks and Rec?

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

9 Reasons Why Friends Are Essential In College

College without friends is like peanut butter without jelly.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
