Dear Grandma and Grandpa,
Thank you so much for being in my life. I am a blessed granddaughter because I get to spend time with both of you outside of school and work.
Grandpa, you inspire me so much both in my faith and hard work. You’ve had to suffer in prison for escaping the land you’ve loved all your life. You’ve sacrificed the last two years of your education to go fight in the Vietnam War. The war caused many deaths, wounds, and pain. Yet, you were saved by the grace of God and you only have to suffer through being enclosed in a place full of feces, dirt, and bacteria.
Meanwhile Grandma was taking care of Dad, two uncles, and my aunt. It didn’t matter what it was but you hid gold and protected my dad and the rest of the children from harm. Grandma, being a mother is certainly not an easy task because the role requires patience and unconditional love. Grandma, you did these acts all with God’s grace and blessings, while never complaining of what pain and difficulty you have been through.
When my siblings and I were born, both of you doted on all of us and tried your very best to instill the values of faith, hard work, and gratitude. There were times that I doubted my faith but both of you were there to reassure me that God should be the priority in my life and that I should not worry too much about what other people think.
Grandpa, you were there when I went through the most difficult times of my life. You were my built in therapist without pay. Grandma, you were strict but you taught my siblings and I to value our culture, love each other, celebrate differences, and make sure to take care of one another.
Thank for all that you both have done for us, but most importantly for passing on the wisdom to future generations like me.
I am truly grateful that you both are my grandparents.
Love,
A Blessed Granddaughter
