Thanksgiving is a holiday that typically involves the extended family getting together and celebrating everything that they are thankful for. During this season, we always focused on a certain number of things that we are most thankful for. In my personal experience, it became bit routine. It seems that some people only consider what they are thankful for during this time of the year. In order to make our lives more joyful and more fulfilling, we should not only spend one day on Thanksgiving.
The truth is that thanksgiving is not just a holiday; it is a lifestyle. I always say that I celebrate thanksgiving every day. By saying that, I mean that I try to be thankful every day. It is important to spend more than one day in a year reflecting on all of the things in life you are thankful for. 1 Thessalonians 5:18 says "Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you." If we are to give thanks in all circumstances, then shouldn't we give thanks every day?
From personal experience, I can honestly say that by constantly giving thanks, it makes you a happier person. I am one of those people who is almost always full of joy and happiness. I am this way due to my habit of giving thanks. By getting into this habit, it forces you to focus on all of the positive things in your life. You ultimately become a reflection of all the positivity that you haven been pondering upon. Others will notice light about you if you are thankful every single day.
Ultimately, it will make you feel better. If you constantly mull negativity in your life, it will eventually take toll on you, and you will always be bitter and angry. If you are always positive and thankful, you will feel joy and freedom. It is literally a weight lifted off of your shoulders. If you live a life giving thanks, you will generally feel healthier than consistently bitter person. It may sound crazy, but our minds control far more than we realize.
Begin by literally forcing yourself to give thanks. Make a list of everything you are thankful for. Repeat your blessings to yourself over and over. Over time, you will notice that you re becoming more positive. You will realize that you will become more thankful than even on Thanksgiving Day.
Thanksgiving is important, but we need to celebrate and be thankful every day of the year.
"And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful." Colossians 3:15
