A Letter To My Grandmother's on Mothers Day
Delany Dvorak

If you are fortunate enough to have your grandmother in your life, pick up the phone and wish her a Happy Mothers Day, it will make her day. It's a day celebrated for all mothers and female caretakers; Let them know you mean the world to them, and you are truly blessed for never running out of hugs or cookies. Fortunately, I am one of the lucky ones who still can see both of my grandmother's, and treasure the close bond I have with them. By writing this letter, I hope they understand how much I value them not only as mother figures, but as human beings who I strive to be just like.

To Eema and Nanny,

Tears are already beginning to fill my eyes as I begin to write this, but it only shows how much both of you mean to me. I want to honor you this Mothers Day because you two are the woman (besides mom) who have taken care of me, influenced me, and always believed in my dreams. I want you both to know how grateful and thankful to still have you in my life at almost 21 years old. You both are more than just grandmother's to me, you're my words of wisdom, my sunshine, and my favorite family historians.

Eema,

You may not realize it, but you are one of the strongest woman I know. It may have taken me twenty years to figure it out, but you built an amazing life for yourself after losing Grandpa. It only respects you more as a woman being able to accomplish so much on your own. It taught me about independence, and being open to try new things. Thank you for being one of my favorite people to watch sports with, and for rocking the same car. You're a tough, sassy, beautiful, funny Polish grandmother and I would never ask for it any other way.

And for you Nanny,

The only word I can describe you is selfless because you've committed to making other's happy, even at your own expense and happiness. I admire your passion for family, and your ability to make an everlasting impression on every person you meet. To me, your compassionate and sweet soul is irreplaceable that has taught me kindness, and to how to forgive. You deserve nothing but the best on this Mother's Day, and I thank you for being the person that you are, and for giving me the best childhood memories. Trust me Nan, my childhood would not be the same if there wasn't any Macarena dance sessions.

I could write forever about how much I appreciate and love the both of you on Mother's Day. But please know matter how busy in life I get, that you will forever have a place within my heart that no one else will ever fill.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
