A letter grade does not define you as a person

Going into finals week, its important to know recognize that

A letter grade does not define you as a person

Worrying about your GPA and class grades creates a lot of stress on a student, especially around finals. Put bluntly, as students, we don't like to fail. Failing means that we have to take the class again, either in the next semester or sometime down the road, which can mess up our progress for our major and half the time we just don't want to take the class again. Normally, the class in which you're struggling the most isn't the most fun class you're taking at the moment, but to generally put it, we don't like nor want to fail a class.

Personally, I've never pulled an all-nighter (shocker) because I honestly never saw the point in it. I'd rather study, with large breaks, throughout the day, and get my eight hours of sleep and be accepting of my abilities and knowledge on the topic by the time I take the final exam. Honestly, if I don't understand something fully at this point at the end of the semester I'm just going to accept that and move on. If you get an A in the class and I get a C, hey we both passed.

A lot of people rely on their grades and GPA for financial aid while going to school, and GPA is taken into consideration for graduate programs like law school and med school. My argument is that grades don't define you as a person, not that they don't matter completely, because well you need a decent GPA to graduate and all that, I'm just saying it shouldn't define your self-worth. Nobody ever got turned away from a job just because they got a C in chemistry in their spring semester that they had to take just for their GE, that doesn't happen.

There is no specific timeline you have to follow to reach any of your goals in life because at the end of the day it doesn't matter how fast or slow you're moving up in life, all that matters is that you're moving up. There are people in their 30s, maybe even 40s taking GE or undergrad classes with me, and when they graduate they will graduate with the same degree as everyone else in their academic cohort, regardless of their age or when and where they started. There's your proof right there.

You are more than just a letter or a number, as long as you deem it so.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
