Goodbye toxicity, hello reality.

Goodbye Toxicity
www.esalen.org

You meet people everyday, some you may not like, some you may love having around. You also meet those that confuse you, because while you don't like them, you do. Do you understand what I am trying to say?

We go through our lives, thinking that the friends we have now, will be the ones we have forever. Maybe that will be the case, but I can tell you that half of the time it isn't. There's nothing wrong with hoping you'll be friends forever, but it takes two to tango and two to keep the relationships living.

If you are like me, you are attracted to all types of people. No matter their skin color, their body types, their personalities. You are willing to be friends with anyone who is willing to be friends with you. You are down-to-earth and caring. However, you may only be able to see the good in people, and force yourself to ignore the bad. While it's good to SEE the good, you also need to see the bad so that you can weed the toxic people from your life. Otherwise, you're just opening doors and allowing people in that may hurt you over a longterm period.

So; this is me saying good riddance to the people in my life that I have let continue to hurt me. I am no longer going to allow people to come into my life and do me wrong. I am just as human as anyone else is and I deserve respect, too.

No more asking you to stop, asking you to see the mistakes you are making. If you are not willing to open your eyes and realize it yourself, than what's the point in me continuing to try to force you to? I am not going to make you change, I just want you to see the error of your ways.

As people, we build things up in our minds. Machines and walls to help keep people from seeing who we truly are inside. We superglue our hearts together, never surrounding ourselves with the right people to help us fix them. We use intelligence to hide our ignorance. We hide our emotions and cry when the lights are turned off or when we are in the shower. We never give ourselves the credit we deserve because we are never REAL.

While reading this, you may push that to the side and say that you are being yourself, but are you? Or are you just trying to deny the truth? When are you just going to be yourself and let people love you for you instead of some fabricated personality?

Be yourself, because you were made in Gods image. You weren't meant to be someone else, you were meant to be you. If you want to be someone else, set goals and work towards them instead of forging a fake copy.

Say goodbye to toxicity and hello to reality.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
