I woke up on Friday morning to the worst ESPN update I have ever received, "Chris Holtmann, former head coach of the Butler University Bulldogs, has accepted the position as the new head coach for The Ohio State University". I can't remember another time when an ESPN update made me want to sob uncontrollably. So, as I always do in times of distress, I have decided to write about it, specifically write a letter about it.
Dear Chris Holtmann,
I thought what we had at Butler was special and unique; unlike other bonds between head coaches and their university. I didn't think some money and a high profile job would come between us because I thought that you loved being a Bulldog.
I thought that you would lead us to victory.
I guess I was wrong, which is quite painful to admit. I, along with my fellow bulldogs, feel betrayed, sad, scared, and disappointed. I realize that this was your decision, but I assumed you would've taken more time to accept another job. While I am sad, I do wish you the best of luck at Ohio State, even if it pains me to say so. I wish you had stayed with Butler, but I can't wait to show you what Butler can do even without you coaching us.
Sincerely,
A Butler student
