Pipe dreams are what people call ideas that no one believes in. They are what we all want but not want we can plausibly achieve. We hear the celebrities preaching to "never give up" and to "keep moving forward" regardless of what anyone says. What these people of wealth are forgetting is that people's words are strong and hurtful. Yet, what we the people seem to forget is that we live in a world that has the potential to be hateful and in order to succeed in it is to rise above it. We live in a world where visions of success are mistaken for delusions of grandeur and it is that concept we must overcome, not plausibility or practicability.
Honestly, I risk delivering the same message as Shia LeBeouf infamously did but just not as memorable. I am not here to boast how much of a success I am, in fact I struggled enough just thinking of what to write. All I know is that sitting around and doing nothing will get you nowhere. Recently, I have been reminded how illogical pipe dreams are. Why should we entertain great success when we should be focused on more modest work? Because whatever our dreams are we must at least try.
Think ambitiously. Think thoughts that you would be embarrassed to tell anyone else because of just how far fetched they are. Then go out and do your best to see it through. The world is hateful and will smite you whenever it gets the chance but you have to think outside the box. Think that you are bigger than it, then tackle it.
Wow, I do apologize for how generic this is coming off as, but what I am realizing going along here is how much I mean these words. When I was younger, I was in a math class for students that did not learn new material as quick as other students. There is nothing wrong with that, however; I remember thinking that the only reason why I was there was because I did not test well and the teachers in charge only saw a two digit number. I realized then that I wanted to go “balls to the wall” and started to fight to get into the regular class. My thought process was simple: I would rather fail doing something new rather than succeed in what I was proficient in. By the way, if you want good grades and are not insane like I am, don’t listen to that process.
What I am trying to convey here, is that I feel that so many people around me are afraid to take risks. They want to stay not just mentally, but financially sound. And that is absolutely fine. What is not fine is having an ambition you are afraid to see through because of the potential fall out that decision would bring about. I myself am a film major. I would love to make it big but that is not realistic and I accept that. What I will not accept is believing the people telling me it will never happen because if you believe that, then it will not.
The celebrities are not wrong, their tried and true yet maybe overplayed message “to never give up” is not incorrect. Jesus, it’s not even overplayed! We just need to listen and stay adamant. Think big, if you feel that under the correct circumstances you can accomplish something and be content with it, do it. Take risks, for God’s sake don’t be ordinary. We as a population must remember that to get somewhere worth going to in life. Take steps forward, only move forward, and don’t go backwards that’s insane! Remain modest and financially comfortable but do not stop there.
