"He said, 'Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some.' When they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish." John 21:6

Purpose has a certain way of creating the utmost anxiety in a person that might be questioning what direction they are supposed to take.

It is a constant wonder of where exactly we are going to place our seemingly unique situation and flourish like we expect to. Frankly, it is overwhelming and it is a harsh reality not just for those in high school and college, but even for adults as they become unsatisfied with their lifestyle or career.

It is often easier to be "tunnel visioned" to our set plan and stay on the path that we deem most prosperous for ourselves, then to focus on what God has in store. When I find myself being selfish in the decisions I am making that will determine my future, it rarely unfolds the way I expected it. Sometimes my life is enveloped in storms until I realize that I am unwilling and not open to the guidance that the Lord has provided for me.

God has such vast purpose for our lives, that is something that we can hardly even fathom in our small-minded antics. He has designed each and every one of us particular in a way that we are going to grow His kingdom beyond compare, and the only instruction we have to take is to listen. Listen to what exactly we need to remove to be able to sow our roots in something other than toxicity. Listen to what we need to permit that is going to produce an abundance of goodness in the situations we find may be difficult. Listen to what roadway we are to travel upon that is going to guarantee our seat, and the seats of many others, at the right hand of God.

The obstacles that hinder us from his direction stand before us whenever Satan makes it his desire to lead us astray. When in term, they will destroy even the very intentions that we sought as more important than God's. He will try to convince us that what this world has to offer is largely better than what God has to ultimately has to offer which begins with salvation

So just as a reminder: God has delivered us from the very thing that has doomed all of eternity... sin. If he took our place in what would eventually destroy us all, he has nothing but the best in mind when it comes to what journey we are supposed to embark on. Take heart in the Lord and where he tells you to cast your nets because the number of fish he knows we have the ability to catch far more than we could ever envision.

In case you're unaware, "resting bitch face" is the term used to describe when a person's natural, expressionless face makes it look like they are mad at the world. Whether they are walking down the street or simply spacing out thinking about what to eat for dinner, it's very easy for others to assume that this person is either upset or mad at them. Because of this, those of us with Resting Bitch Face (RBF), and especially us women, have all experienced many of the same situations and conversations, including:

We've all had a crush before. Whether it leads to something or nothing, the process has all been the same. The awkward feelings, the stalking, and the stress of trying to keep this huge secret. The feeling of becoming a total spazz is something that cannot be avoided, and the most spazzy family that can relate to this feeling is the Belcher's.

At the tender age of 18, we are bestowed with the title of “adult.” For 17 years, we live under the rules and guidelines of our parents, school, and government, and to stray from any of those rules or guidelines marks us as a rebel. At 18, though, we must choose which college we want to go to or what career we want. We are allowed and encouraged to vote. We can buy lottery tickets and cigarettes. We can drop out of school, leave our household, and do other "adult" things. At 18, we start down a path of thinking for ourselves, when for the entirety of our lives other institutions have been mandated to think and do for us.

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.
