My first year at Fisher was a blast, but it took a while to get to the fun. Freshmen year I went in absolutely terrified. I was so worried that nobody would like me and that I'd fail all of my classes, I spent most of my time in my room. This year I am tackling things with a much different approach by setting a few goals for myself:
1. Personal health comes first.
Freshmen year I let my health slip without a doubt. I may not have put on the freshmen fifteen, but I did lose 25 pounds before thanksgiving. As exciting as that sounds, it was not in a healthy way. Sophomore year is the year I take back my health. Eating three healthy meals a day, taking my vitamins, remembering to deep condition my hair, and drinking less coffee. Why? Because my body deserves nothing but the best, especially under stress.
2. Not waiting until the last minute
Waiting to the last minute always leads to disaster, one way or another. Whether it be binge drinking Starbucks double shots until every last question is answered, or staying up all night to study, it all takes a toll. Thinking back to my first goal for the semester, tackling assignments, even minutely, as soon as I get them is a top priority.
3. Do something active four times a week.
Whether it be a run in one of Rochester many parks or a walk through Pittsford with some friends, staying healthy is key. I often found that I was so unwilling to take the stairs or walk anywhere on campus unless I had to. It took so long to wake up in the morning and staying awake was a real challenge. Getting moving most of the days in the week will definitely do some good!
4. Always saying yes to trying anything new and reasonable.
Instead of refusing to go to yoga class, because I've never gone, if someone invites me I'll go. Not only will this help with checking some things off of my bucket list, but it'll help with making new friends! Trying new things never hurt anyone; unless it's strangers drink at a party. That answer is still no.
As the last days of summer unfold, be sure to set some goals for yourself as well! Write them down so there's no excuse for you to let them slip away. Let's make the Fall 2016 semester a great one, Cardinals!
