Studying abroad is a life changing experience that will change your view of the world. In May 2013 I got the chance to travel to Spain for an entire month with my school's Junior Journey program. I was lucky enough to attend a school that set aside part of our tuition so that us students could experience a trip! I am thankful to Florida Southern for that experience.
While traveling and studying abroad I learned some really great things about the Spanish culture, and I also made the best memories of my life with some of my closest friends!
If you have the chance to study abroad in college here are just a few reasons that you should take advantage of that opportunity.
First of all you will create memories that will last a lifetime. You won’t just get fun pictures to put on Instagram, you will get to have moments that are worth more than 200 likes on a photo. The beauty of Spain couldn’t just be captured in the hundreds of photos I took. It is forever a picture in my memories that will hopefully remain for a long time!
Secondly you get the chance to immerse yourself in a culture that you’ve never been in before! While in Spain I got to live with a host Mother who made us very authentic Spanish cuisine for every single meal we had. We got to experience the nightlife of Spain, and how important Futbol is to them. You can’t appreciate a different culture that way, unless you get a first hand experience and studying abroad gives you that chance!
In College you get the chance to travel with your friends! This not only gives you an opportunity to create lifetime memories with your closest pals, but it creates an opportunity for your friendships to grow and to have conversations about what's going on in the rest of the world, which is so important to understand nowadays. I have a ton of friends who have traveled to many different places, and it's really cool to hear about their experiences and how they're view of the world changes.
There are so many things to be seen and to be learnt out there that you have to take advantage of any trip you can take to not only have some fun, but so you can grow as a person and get a brief glimpse into how the rest of the world lives.
So if you have the chance to travel, take it. Don't wait! Go see the world!
