1. You would be a free bird.
For an undergraduate student this would probably be the first time that the students would be away from their parents. It can be a heart rending experience, but we have the unlimited possibility of making the most of it, with no restrictions and full freedom of trying new exciting things, like scuba diving in the Great Barrier Reef.
2. Learn a local language.
If you study abroad in a non-English speaking country, you would probably learn new, local languages. And people would surely notice your new cute accent. You would try your best hand at “Bonjour Mademoiselle.”
3. Look at the world from a different perspective.
When we interact with people from different cultures, we understand the values of life from a new, unspoken perspective. We understand the struggles and hardships of others, and try to incorporate that into our own lives, and make ourselves a more complete being, with each day acting as a new beginning in the continuous process of our evolution. But, most importantly, it is very important to understand life in a new land, from the eyes of a rich and poor person both and that’s done best through networking and connections.
4. Make you stronger, independent, and less prone to homesickness.
Living away from your country, city and family, will make a stronger human from the inside. You will become emotionally strong, and your ability to handle tough situations would increase exponentially. The life of an experiencer starts from here, when the first step is taken into the wilderness.
5. Good at math.
You would probably increase your mathematical ability by studying in a foreign country. Those days of multiplication and addition will revisit you, and take your mind for a nice jog. “How many Euros should I spend today?”
6. Fashionista to normality.
This one is especially relevant to girls. You might be the most well-dressed, chic person in your neighborhood, but there’s a big world out there, and your fashion ability will be tested. Peeps, if you’re thinking of studying in European countries, be aware: women in Russia and Italy do not leave their place without looking a million bucks. So, you gotta increase your game. Those Gucci and Chanel items become everyday accessories.
Also, for those thinking of studying in Asian countries, be aware that those countries are very stringent and conservative in terms of the dressing of women. Those daisy dukes and shorts need to go, and scarfs would take a central role in your life.
7. Different academic environment.
One big advantage of studying in a different country is the different way of teaching and grading the information students learn. Teaching in Spain might differ a little from that taught in Thailand, but it surely would be a great idea to see how rigor of academics in other countries affects students and the economics of the place. Working with professors and researchers from other parts of the world will give you a heads up in the way your academics are structured.
8. Night life.
Since, you’ll be out and about, touring local places…you would have a great chance to experience the nightlife of that place. From hopping into bars(only if you’re a ‘full’ adult), pubs and nightclubs, there would be plenty to tour if you want to think of yourself as a new owl in a new place.
9. Memories
The things you do in your trip in a far away land would give you some of the best memories of your life. It would be emotional andwonderful when you would look back at the photos you took in front of the Kremlin or The Great Wall of China. You would fondly recall these memories to your your children and grandchildren. The nostalgia would engulf you and all the naughty adventurous things you did on the Alps would be out in the open.
10. Continue on a journey of lifelong learning.
This is one part of the puzzle of life. It would probably make you a much better and evolved person, and give you a road map of the things you should be working at. When you see the world moving ahead, it gives you an impetus to do well, to do things differently, to do things independently as well as in a group. Do not be afraid to try new things and immerse yourself in the place, because if you didn’t have that Spicy Indian Food in front of the Taj Mahal, you missed a part.
Plus, if you're single and ready to mingle, you might find gove, you’d be a master at the French kiss (it’s global), and your romance with the place would be endless…forever...and ever.
