Hey Bruins!
Now that we are all settled into the new quarter, we are focused on classes and meetings, and everything else college has to offer. But we need to remember to set aside some time to do something for someone else.
There is nothing like a week back home to remind you that there's more in the world than UCLA. All of a sudden the little bubble that can sometimes block out the rest of the world pops and we can see that people need our help.
As Greeks, one of our main focuses is philanthropy. We support our chapters' philanthropies and the other houses' as well. But, one great thing about UCLA is that we have the opportunity to give back not other through Greek organizations, but also through the many philanthropic clubs on campus.
Spring quarter is full of big events aimed at making a change in this world. The two main events are Dance Marathon and Relay for Life. We at The Odyssey highly encourage all Bruins to get involved in one (or both) of these phenomenal causes.
Dance Marathon raises money to find a cure to pediatric aids. PAC puts on this event each year and raises over $400,000, annually. Aside from dancing, participants get the opportunity to meet people affected, learn about the history and usually learn a little about themselves.
Relay for Life supports the American Cancer Society. The 24-hour event includes games and entertainment for participants. It is a free event and anyone can stop by. Groups can fundraise for the American Cancer Society by selling food and services and through donations for their teams.
Both of these events, as well as several others, allow UCLA students to see tangible change being made and be a part of something amazing. Find out what cause inspires you and get involved to help make a change.
