Matty Healy, Adam Hann, Ross MacDonald, and George Daniel make up the rising band from England. This band is what pop music needs because they steer from the normal usage of beats with their 80's like sound, and their lyrics have a meaning that aren't usually found in other artists' lyrics. In case you don't know The 1975, their first self-titled album was released September 2, 3013 with the most popular song in the U.K. and the U.S. being "Chocolate." The 1975 released their second album this year, "I Like It When You Sleep, for You Are So Beautiful yet So Unaware of It," on February 26, 2016 which was nominated for Mercury Prize's Album of the Year and won Best Album at the Q Awards. If you haven't had the chance to listen to either album and are unsure about it, here are some reasons why you should check out The 1975:
They are apologetically themselves.
If you watch the music video for "The Sound" off the band's newest album, there are quotes from reviewers that hate on The 1975. Quotes like "This band thinks it has a charismatic singer...they are mistaken," however they don't mention who wrote them. The 1975 starts off in a box with critics watching and hating on them, but in the end with the critics in the box they can't provide an ounce of the entertainment that The 1975 can. They are who they are, and they are not going to try to be like anyone else.
Wise lyrics.
No sarcasm here, The 1975 are deep. Their lyrics are filled with deep emotional sentiments like the one above, "Don't fall in love with the moment and think you're in love with the girl," where Healy warns people in the song "She's American" that they need to be aware if they are truly in love with the one they are with or with the idea of them. If you check out their albums, you will understand what I mean when I say that Matty Healy is a lyrical mastermind.
Breath-taking concerts.
On December 25, 2016 Vevo released a recorded full live performance at The O2 in London. It truly captures the purest moments of the band playing. For one song Matty Healy asks all audience members to not video or use their phones for one song to truly be in the moment with the band and it is without a doubt beautiful. The 1975 knows how to entertain and create a magical show for their fans.
