8 Reasons Why Being A Girl Sucks In The Summer

Being a girl is hard enough, but being a girl in summer is the ultimate challenge.

Summer heat sucks. I mean, don't get me wrong, summer is super nice, and I love that there's more to do. I'm a huge water bug, so any chance I have to swim is the best thing in the world. However, when the temperature rises, humidity is involved, and there's no way to cool down, things take a turn for the worse. Honestly, girls can sometimes get pretty gross in the summer. It's not pretty and here's why:

1. You sweat in not so fun places-

You sweat, everywhere. I'm talking pit sweat, under boob sweat, thigh sweat, basically anywhere you can think of. I feel like I have to bathe in deodorant every morning. I'm serious too. Lather up the pits, get under the boobs and between the thighs especially to avoid any sort of rash from the sweat and rubbing. I even do a little on the back of my knee caps and where my elbow bends so sweat doesn't pool up on me. Oh and let's not forget in infamous sweat mustache. I told you girls are a little gross.

2. Shirts are required-

Unlike boys, girls can't just whip their shirts off to lose a layer. No, we're stuck with bras and our shirts on all day, sometimes even an extra layer of a tank top to absorb some of the sweat to keep our shirts dry. So every time I see a guy with his shirt off, I get a little cranky about the fact that I'm stuck fully clothed.

3. Tan lines-

We have straps of all sorts and spend time in the sun with different ones. So unless you actively go tanning in a tanning bed, you're going to have some weird tan lines depending on the top you're wearing. It makes any nice pictures or more formal events very stressful.

4. Shaving-

I personally don't have much of a problem with this as I shave my legs every day, even in the winter. I don't do well with body hair. However, I know a lot of girls hate this. In the summer girls tend to shave more often, which usually leads to razor bumps and razor burns. Plus, and yes girls do this, you have to shave your feet. A lot of girls get some hair on their feet, and you have to keep it clear, so people don't know. Basically just shave everything you can. The more hair you get rid of, the better.

5. Bug bites-

You're pretty much a tasty buffet for all the bugs of the season. Your skin is bare and smooth, and you probably smell pretty tasty as well due to all the lotion or body spray, trying to mask the smell of your sweat. Give me an hour outside, and I'm covered with bites. Which goes back to the shaving issues, for if you accidentally go over one of those suckers you're ready to punch a hole in the wall.

6. Blisters-

It's no secret that most girls like shoes. Once again, personally not so much me. I have high tops, low tops, and flip flops. My Mom, however, seems to have literally ever type of shoe. I've gotten blisters before with some shoes in the past, and it sucks. All you want is to look cute and be comfortable with the heat, but you end up paying the price later. It's like summer wants you to be miserable as anything you do to help yourself stay cool, kills your body.

7. You stick to everything-

Unless it's a comfortable surface where it's cool, I almost want to refuse to sit in the summer. Your legs stick to chairs, so not only do you have to peel yourself off and deal with that pain, but your legs have the pattern printed on them for a while. Plus, you are more than likely to leave some sweat behind. Seriously, you sit on a metal chair for even a few minutes, you standing up and it's wet. Once again, girls are gross.

8. Periods-

Yes, I'm going there. First, you already feel gross and self-conscious when on your period. Blood is coming out of you, and you're trying to be careful as to not get any on your clothes to embarrass yourself. Add sweat into the mix, and you're going to have a bad day. I haven't had the problem in a while, as my birth control has stopped mine, but I remember the feeling. I literally came up with excuse after excuse to go to the bathroom because I needed to find out exactly what was going on down there. It's not pretty.

Summer sucks. It's hot outside, and it makes us gross. Being a girl is hard enough, but being a girl in summer is the ultimate challenge. How much are you willing to suffer?

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
