I hope
you enjoy my sarcasm because you say I have none, but I understand yours.
To say I hated you freshmen year was an understatement. In chorus, I couldn't stand to look at you. In homeroom, I had to try so hard to make sure I didn't turn around and tell you how mad I was. When I sat at the same lunch table as you, it was so difficult not to just throw my food in your face.
But oh how times have changed. People look at us, and when we tell them we hated each other, they think we're lying. I honestly think if we had never loathed each other, our friendship wouldn't be as strong as it is now. Because of our disagreements, I have learned to be a better person, to not hold grudges and to enjoy people's company. Thank you for teaching me these things and many more life lessons.
To all the girls who have ever let a boy get between them, and to any two girls who might let it happen: don't. If I did let it ruin my friendship, I would've lost one of the most important relationships I've ever had.
Once I got over myself, and you got over yourself because we both realized what was more important, I found one of my best friends for (what I hope is) life. You are the friend you meet in high school who is supposed to stick around through all of your everything, and if you dare leave me, I will come find you and deprive you of Diet Coke. Even when you decided to go to Xavier (go Bearcats), I knew I would see you or could talk to you when I needed you the most. In high school, you were there through every guy, every bad class and the first and last dance. For some reason, people have thought we were dating, but I guess we are just that cool. But if I ever had a bad day, I knew I could run to you. You were always a hug away from making me feel better. When we lost Rachel, I knew you were the only person who could possibly make me feel a little better in the middle of chaos and depression. You saw my writing ability and I saw yours, and we both made sure that neither of us would lose that. You were always my person to go to when no one else would listen. You were my safe haven because I knew I never had to tell you to keep a secret, and since I was a single friend and not a group, you entrusted me with some of your secrets, too. I knew if I ever needed someone to beat somebody up, you would have my back. I led a retreat with you in my group, and not that we weren't friends before then, but it definitely improved our friendship. You're not one to talk about your feelings unless you're angry, but you did then. I was so proud of you.
With college, I knew nothing would change. For once, you were coming to me with your boy problems instead of the other way around. They're all jerks, and you deserve better. You were the only one who was still hesitant on making an opinion of my boyfriend, but only because you are highly protective of me. I hope you approve now because he's staying around and you are, too. You deserve the world, and a boy who treats you like you are his. I know you're not a lovey-dovey, clingy, attached-at-the-hip type of girl, but you're going to find a guy who is your best friend. Wait for him because he's worth it, not these college weirdos. Plus, date someone from UC, we are cooler anyways.
Your year had some ups and downs, but you still remained my Anna through it all. There is no one I would rather get squeezed to death from and do our little hand, patty-cake thing we do for no reason. You have done amazing things, and you will do more amazing things as your life moves forward. I look forward to being by you through all of it, even when you get to teach (AKA traumatize) your future students. I will pray for them.
You were the best friend I never asked for, but I'm so glad I found you.
Now please, go get a Facebook and a Twitter, so you can share this with the world. Because I hate you, you aren't my other half and I don't need you.
I'm kidding, I wouldn't be me if I didn't have you.
