Yes, I like math.
Despite its bad rep, math is actually a really interesting subject, at least to me.
It never really clicked in my head as to why people seem to hate it so much because it's really like a puzzle a lot of the time, and it can feel pretty great when you finally solve a hard problem that you've been working on for a while.
This may sound really lame to anyone who isn't as into math as I am, but I actually downloaded an app on my phone just to do math whenever I feel like it.
I also bought a book to teach myself calculus over the summer, and I am currently enrolled in a college algebra class, so yeah, it's safe to say I'm going to have a pretty awesome, math-filled summer vacation.
I'm not going to lie, math is something I have just always enjoyed, so much to the point that I go home and try to teach my family members what I'm learning at school and they just look at me like I'm totally crazy!
Because of the fact that I do this so often, it was recommended to me to become a math teacher.
At first, I was completely opposed to the idea, but after thinking about it a bit more, I realized that I may have just found the profession for me.
I know there are so many more careers in math besides teaching, but those are not the careers I want.
For me, teaching math will obviously focus on math itself, but I also plan to make my classes fun. I'm not going to ignore the fact that students have lives outside of class, either.
I plan on doing anything I can to help and guide them, and for the record, I probably couldn't do that too much in other math related professions like engineering, which everyone seems to recommend when I mention that I plan to teach.
My love for math honestly has a lot to do with teachers I've had in the past. Maybe some people didn't get quite as lucky as me and that's where their hatred of math originated.
I guess we'll never know for sure, but what I do know is that my math teachers truly did have an impact on me and my enjoyment of this awesome subject.
Going to my math classes throughout high school has never been something I dreaded. I definitely enjoy the course material, but the teachers also do so much to liven it up, and that is exactly what I want to do for my future students.
I want to impact them the way I've been impacted, whether that be with actual math that I'm teaching, or just plain support that I will be sure I'm willing to offer.
So yes, I like math, and I'm not gonna lie, I like it more and more everyday, so much to a point that the growth of my liking for math isn't even linear anymore; it's exponential! (I'm not even sorry for that terrible math joke.)
But anyway, despite the bad reputation math seems to hold, I think it's pretty freaking awesome and hopefully I can make other students in the future see it the same way I do.
