Why Every Girl Needs A Guy Best Friend

He'll forever be your ride-or-die.

Why Every Girl Needs A Guy Best Friend
Jennee

No matter where you go in life, who you meet, or what you do, best friends are the ones who will undoubtedly get you through anything; they’ll stick around for the good, the bad, and the ugly. Despite what happens, they’ll always be standing right beside you.

The only thing better than a best friend is a best guy friend, because no matter how many girls nights in you need or how often you need someone to pick your right shade of lipstick, no other friendship is ever going to compare to his. Absolutely nothing and no one will ever replace the bond you two have, the insane memories you make, or the absolutely dysfunctional friendship you create through all the adventures.

It’s true that boys are absolutely frustrating; it’s true that we constantly feel is if we could never life with…or without them. When it comes to friendship though, there’s no way you could survive without your best guy friend. Girls who have a ride-or-die guy in their lives like I do have a whole hell of a lot to be thankful for.

Thank you for loving me no matter what I do, what I wear, or how I look.

It never matters how many times I show up with messy hair, bags under my eyes, and smeared makeup because you never seem to notice anyway; if you do notice, you never seem to mind. Thank you for not caring if I show up in baggy hoodies and lazy sweatpants. And thanks for wearing baggy hoodies and lazy sweatpants all the time so I never feel underdressed. (Thanks especially for letting me steal all your hoodies.)

I love your advice even if I never take it.

Thank you for giving me the straight-up, honest advice even when I don’t want to hear it. I love how genuine and real you are with me and I love that you expect the same in return. Thank you for warning me about the douchebag boy I’ve fallen head over heels for and thank you for not telling me “I told ya so” when he does exactly what you warned me he would do. A guy’s perspective is pure gold.

Your lame pick-up lines are priceless.

I may roll my eyes at every lame and corny thing you say, but the cheesy pick-up lines always make my day. Although they may be cliché, thank you for complimenting me when I felt the least pretty. (It’s nice to be hit on, too, BTW. Even if you don’t really mean it.)

Our bro dates are the best dates.

Even though I’m technically not “one of the guys” thank you for always letting me tag along and for treating me like one of the guys when I want to be. Thank you for teaching me how to spit, how to hit, and how to drink “like a man” while never forgetting to treat me like a lady.

You genuinely care about my safety…

Just like the brother I never had or the “cool dad” I always wanted, thank you for always respecting me and watching out for me and threatening to hurt anyone who ever hurts me. Thank you for demanding respect from other boys who sometimes forget that I really am a lady, and thank you for making sure I am always comfortable and safe.

…and you genuinely care about my happiness.

You know when I’m not okay before I even say it. Thank you for avoiding the chick flicks, the movies, and the cry sessions and skipping straight to the video games and vodka. I’m thankful you taught me to “toughen up” when I wanted to cry, but even more thankful you let me break down when I needed to.

Being comfortable around you comes easily.

It’s absolutely normal for you to be asleep in bed with no pants on (even if I’m not home). Just like it’s normal for you to find me parked outside your house before you even get off work. I’m thankful we can binge-eat massive of foods at any time of the day and I’m thankful you never judge me when I stuffed my face with the last slice of pizza. Our relationship carries no worries or high expectations. You’re living proof that girls and guys really can be just friends.

Our levels of weird have no limit when we’re together.

Our inside jokes, secret languages, and strange sounds may seem absolutely bizarre to everyone else, but I know that wherever I go and whatever I do, I will always have someone who understands me in the most insane ways. I also know I’ll always have someone to geek out with and get absolutely cray with.

You show me the excitement (and danger) of adventure.

When the video games and pick-up basketball games don’t cut it, our time together is spent taking random adventures and making spur-of-the-moment decisions. Whether we’re leaving for the hot springs at four in the morning, climbing trees at midnight or taking spontaneous road trips, you teach me how to live in the moment. Thank you for all the bad decisions we make that later become the best stories. I’m grateful you never take “no” for an answer.

There's never any drama.

You really don't care about that super b*tchy thing another girl said to me and you could care less about dirty looks and gossip. (You'll really only care if one of their moms is hot.) When we're together, there's never any bullsh*t.

You understand that life happens.

Unlike other relationships or friendships, you understand that life gets in the way sometimes. No matter how busy I may be or how hectic my life gets, you find ways to let me know that you’re always thinking about me and you love me no matter what.

You’re proof that good guys really do exist.

No matter what mistakes you make, you accept them and move on from them without ignoring them. When I mess up, you’re there to help me, too. You would take a bullet for your family and your closest friends even if half of them wouldn’t do the same for you and you live freely and happily. Despite the boys that may break my heart, you’re living proof that not every boy is out to do the same.

Regardless of how many best friends may be a part of your life, absolutely no one will ever come close to your guy best friend. While it’s true that life may take you in different directions and circumstances may always alter how close you may be, the relationship you create will always be one of the most meaningful.

After all, how lucky is it to say that you love a boy who loves you right back?

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
