Over the Thanksgiving holiday, most people would associate the week with seeing family, eating a lot and shopping on Black Friday. But this year, another thing was added onto that list for Gilmore Girls lovers as Gilmore Girls: A Year In The Life premiered on November 25th. The Netflix series picks up a decade after the infamous finale (which I'm not going to spoil), where Lorelai is now having a slight mid-life crisis and Rory is still having trouble with getting her life together.
The series is divided up into four mini-movies, which follow the four seasons: Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall. What also makes the show very interesting is the theme of loss throughout the episodes, with the focus on family patriarch Richard Gilmore passing away before the series. Actor Edward Hermann passed away two years prior to the development of the revival, which played into the story arc as a result. This only makes the series stronger due to the emotions each actor brings to the role when talking about Richard's death.
However, one thing that doesn't change in the revival is the fast-paced and witty dialogue. The banter between Lorelai and Rory in the new series is just as good then it was in the old series. The episodes were written by original creators AmyvSherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino, and they truly recapture the nature of the show within the episodes. Also, Sherman-Palladino reveals the last four words she always intended to end the series on in the last seconds of "Fall", and without spoiling them, they left me absolutely speechless (to be honest I had to rewind it a couple of times because of how surprising the words were).
Overall, the series promised everything fans wanted. Although there are plotholes and some storylines that seemed unnecessary, the revival answered most of our burning questions that were left unanswered in Season 7. So, make sure to make a big pot of coffee and watch Gilmore Girls: A Year In A Life if you want emotional drama and witty dialogue from its characters.
