Greek life is weird. There are so many aspects that are difficult to explain to those who have never experienced Greek life with one of the most confusing concepts being "big" and "little".
Basically, the Big and Little both decide that they want to be best friends with each other more than anyone else in their chapter and they do some paperwork and they get their titles. It's basically a marriage. Throughout this process, though, the Big will give the Little gifts to show her just how obsessed she is with her. Of course, the whole relationship doesn't depend on how expensive or elaborate these gifts are, but it's one of the best ways to start a friendship. Yay, free stuff! Here are some tips to properly spoil your Little.
Personalize
Even if you're not the best at crafting, it's not that hard to paint a canvas with her favorite color and slap on a monogram. You want to show her that this gift is specifically for her and that you didn't just buy a pre-made canvas with an inspiring quote on it from Hobby Lobby.
Make it unique
The best way to do this for crafts is to make it yourself (not buy it from Hobs Lobs). But don't just search "Big/Little gifts" on Pinterest and copy what you find. Pinterest is a Godsend for inspiration for gifts, but you shouldn't try to recreate them exactly. Chances are every Big in your chapter is searching the same thing and if you copy it exactly, every Little will end up with the same craft.
Think it through
If you know this girl enough to make her your Little, then you probably know something about her. Is she obsessed with Grey's Anatomy? Put a quote from McDreamy on a canvas or a card. Have an inside joke with her? Incorporate that into your gifts somehow. It will show you care so much more if you put more thought into your gifts and make it special just for her.
Mix it up
Yes, canvases and painted letters are super adorable and relatively easy to make, your Little doesn't need 50 canvases with inspirational quotes or clever sayings about your chapter. Mix it up and give her other things that she will actually use instead of just decorations to hang on the wall. Keychains, movies, jewelry or books are great options for practical gifts. And no one will be upset if they're gifted food.
Keep it practical
It's easy to get caught up in all of the cute gift ideas and spend hours on hours crafting like a mad man. But before you raid all of the local craft stores for all of their canvases, sequins and glitter, remember your bank account. You don't need to spend $300 on gifts for your Little and sometimes the more simple the gift, the better. The point is: these gifts are fun and it's nice to spoil someone, but your gifts aren't going to change how much your little loves you. At the end of the day, it's better to spend time with her than to spend all your time, energy and money on her gifts.
