Happiness is fleeting,
Forever running.
It waits
Just in time for you to catch up.
It turns, smile on its face.
No, not a smile,
A smirk
Then it’s gone.
You thought
That if you treated it with
Love
And
Care,
That this time it would be different.
But happiness is in love with loneliness
And flirts with failure.
It dances with despair,
Sneaks off with sadness.
But
With no loneliness where would be the comfort in company;
With no failure where would be the satisfaction in success;
With no despair where would be the happiness in hope;
With no sadness where would be the jubilation in joy.
So really,
Thank you, happiness,
For being difficult to catch,
For slipping from my fingers,
Because when I do catch you,
And I will,
Won’t that be beautiful?
Happiness is always something that I've struggled to grasp. The concept of happiness differs between us all, but no one always has it in the palm of their hands. Though sometimes it seems that people are handed their dose of happiness on a silver platter, it takes much more work than that. But its that very work that makes happiness so much sweeter. We take our joy for granted. We seem to only notice when it's gone, after it's too late.
So I challenge you to be aware of three things: first, that each and every person finds happiness in different ways. Find what pleases you and appreciate what pleases others. Second, that working for your satisfaction makes it worthwhile. Be willing allow yourself to put your happiness first and put effort into it. Lastly, appreciate the small things that make you smile. Notice all the little gestures and simple things that make your day that much better.
Happiness runs on a loop, a rotation. You are going to have your valleys and your peaks, but you can make your valleys a little less lower and your mountains a little taller. Just keep your grasp and soon enough, it'll be natural. Soon enough, you won't have to hold on so tight.
