Get Up And Dance For A Cure

Do you like dancing? Do you like volunteering and helping children? Well look no further than Temple University’s very own Hootathon. We have all heard of Penn State’s annual THON that raises over millions of dollars for the Children’s Hospital in Hershey, Pennsylvania. Now it is time for Temple to take a spin at it.

Temple started Hootathon a few years ago and received great results. The organization raised around $120,000 for CHOP in 2014. This year the ambitious goal is reaching $215,000. This is all for a great cause and there is many ways to get involved. One way to get involved is signing up to be a dancer. The dancers have to raise at least $100 to be able to participate to dance and stand for twelve hours straight. Dancers are encouraged to form teams with their friends, sports team, greek life, and student organizations. Teams are not required either. Whether you are dancing alone or with a group, it does not matter as long as you are there dancing for the children. If you are apart of Greek life on campus, your entire organization can organize different events to fundraise money. There are many possibilities like canning on Liacouras Walk, a dunk tank, community-involved events, or canning throughout the city of Philadelphia. Hootathon will also be holding a Student Organization competition where points will be calculated by fundraising efforts, spirit points, winning games during the event, and other factors. This creates some friendly competition while fundraising for a good cause.

This event takes place on Nov. 7, 2015 in Mitten Hall. You will be able to dance from noon to midnight for the children in the hospital that need happiness, love, and finding a cure. The money fundraised goes to help pay their medical bills and for research for the different diseases causing them to become ill to hopefully find a cure. There is no football game that weekend so take time out of your busy weekend schedule to come out and help the children of CHOP.

The main goal is helping the children. Penn State has grown their own THON to earn over millions of dollars for the Children’s Hospital. Temple just started this organized event a few years back and is already gaining popularity. Different businesses and people all around Philadelphia want to donate and help with the cause. The goal is to eventually reach over $1 million over the next few years and go above and beyond reaching taller heights than Penn State. The more popular Hootathon gets the more space they will need to dance and might eventually move the event into the Liacouras center to hold all the dancers.

If you want to get involved donate some spare change to the canners or by visiting the website at www.HootaThon.org to learn more on what to do to help. This is a great event to get involved in and you do not want to pass up the opportunity to meet the different children you are dancing for to help cure their illnesses. Get involved today!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
