You may have heard his most popular songs such as "Firestone" or "Stole the Show" or perhaps his remixes of "Often" by the Weeknd or "Sexual Healing" by Marvin Gaye. Or maybe you've been witnessing the subtle buzz over his music and shows. Kygo, or his actual name, Kyrre Gørvell-Dahll, formed by the first two letters of his two names, is a DJ from Norway who started as just a piano player taking lessons and has now turned himself into an internationally known producer and musician.
Beginning piano lessons at age 6, he discovered his passion for music and decided to later broaden his talents at 16, when he began to produce music by using a keyboard and Logic Pro, a software on Mac computers that provides instruments, audio effects, and recording for music synthesis. After this discovery he started to post his music/remixes on SoundCloud and YouTube, gaining an incredible amount of exposure, resulting in Avicii and Chris Martin, the lead singer of Coldplay, asking him to create a remix of their songs.
Kygo's career officially took off in 2014 when he performed on the main stage at TomorrowWorld, a music festival in Atlanta, Georgia. Since then, he's performed at many music festivals such as Lollapalooza, Ultra, Coachella, All Things Go, and many more. Another factor in his success thus far is his remix of "I See Fire" by Ed Sheeran, attracting more than 35 million views on SoundCloud. His music can be best described as tropical house or electronica, giving an extremely beachy and relaxing vibe.
As of recently, Kygo has been releasing original tracks such as "Here for You," "Nothing Left," and a collaboration with another famous DJ, Dillon Francis, for "Coming Over." Because of this, fans can expect an album being released soon and hopefully a headlining tour announcement coming soon. Although in January 2016, Kygo is making his headliner debut at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York City. So if you want to feel like you're on a tropical island or brush off your worries, go check out his music on SoundCloud, YouTube, Apple Music, or Spotify and prepare to expect great things from the up-and-coming producer.
