This is just a letter I'm writing to my future self about all of the things I hope to come true by like...2025 or something. It's something I can look back on in ten years and see if I've followed my dreams, changed them, or find out that nothing has changed.
21 November 2015
Dear Molly,
I'm not going to put a last name in this letter because I don't know if you're going to be married ten years from now or not. Maybe you will be or maybe you won't. Let's see, right now I'm sitting in my dorm room in Davis Hall at Adrian College. Your roommate is Kayla and you're dating Jon. Everything for you is going pretty wonderful at the moment. It's snowing outside and you wish your sisters were here to see the beauty outside. Christmas music is playing as Kayla watches something on her computer, Jon's typing his Odyssey article in your black chair and you are at your desk, typing this letter. You're eating a cherry flavored candy cane and dancing a bit in your seat to your Christmas music.
This past year has been difficult for you and basically the entire world. You finished your senior year, survived the hectic and stressful day of graduation, worked your way through the summer and moved into college in August. You've made new friends, kept in contact with your old ones (Hi Larissa!!) and are truly learning what it feels like to be completely responsible for your own well-being. At the moment, you don't pay too much attention to politics or world happenings (Hopefully that will change by 2025) but Donald Trump is running for president, London was recently attacked by ISIS, and it seems as if the world is slipping. Gay marriage is legal in all fifty states (That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind!) and they're now working toward furthering these rights.
Right now you're an English major in Secondary Education with a History minor. You hope to graduate in four years with the aid of study abroad to Oxford and York. Hopefully by 2025 you'll be teaching juniors or seniors to love reading and writing as much as you do and on the side you'll still be doing your own writing. Maybe in the next ten years you'll even get a novel published! At the moment, Anna is a junior in high school and Emily is a freshman (yikes). You keep thinking of your sisters and how fast they're growing and that they need to stop growing.
Just so you know, since it's ten years later where/when you are, hopefully, everything is great there. Right now, in ten years, I see myself with my dream job, teaching and writing. Hopefully I'll be married and at least I'll have a kid, or planning on it. I mean since neither Anna nor Emily want kids. (That's probably changed in the past ten years, I'm going to assume).
To end this letter, I'd like to say that, even though I don't know what's going to happen in the next ten years, I'm hoping that everything is great. I know that some days won't be easy, but all of the hard days will be worth it in the end. Just remember you're a beautiful human (because you have a difficult time believing that now) and that you can get through anything.
Remember the wise words from one of the first people you became friends with your freshman year in high school that you live by today. "Move on girly, never look back."
