I am a 21-year-old third-year social work student. My future career will have lots of me speaking out against injustice in our world.
If you don't like what I have to say then now is the time for you to walk out the door and not look back. From this point forward my speaking out will only happen more often. I will not rest from now until the day that I die.
One of the core values on the first page of the NASW code of ethics is social justice. That means that it is up to us as social workers to fight for social justice across the board.
This means if a group of people is being oppressed or if a group of people is fearful because of something that is happening in their community it is my future job to stand up speak out and educate.
I will never apologize for doing any of that. I will never feel bad for doing any of that. This is what my future is going to look like. This is why I write response articles to things that I think are social injustice or are trying to oppress other communities.
I will not rest until I have nothing left to fight for. The fact of the matter is that I will always have something to fight for until I die.
After last weeks article, all it has given me is more drive and more reason to continue to fight for social justice in this world.
Nothing anyone can say or do will take that drive away from me.
