With finals and winter break quickly approaching us, many people are excited to finish. Since winter break is a time to relax and not worry about the stresses of school for a month, not too much would be going on to keep them busy. Because of this, college students become bored once Christmas is over. To beat the overwhelmingly painful winter-break boredom, here are some fun things to do during winter break.

1. Bake Cookies

This is a classic activity for people of any age. The best part of the baking is that when they're all baked, you can decorate them however you please, plus the satisfaction that comes when it's time to eat them.

2. Create Gifts

Whether it's for the holiday season, someone's winter-break birthday, or to give to a friend just for the fun of it, making your own gifts are fun, inexpensive, and rewarding. If you need gift ideas, read my ideas for last-minute holiday gifts.

3. Find Local Holiday Events

Does your town or a nearby town hold events during the holidays? If so, gather a few friends and enjoy a day of food, window shopping, a show at a local theatre, or anything else that could be held during the holidays.

4. Have a Movie Night

What could be better than staying in with a few friends all cozy with movies? Make some microwave popcorn and hot chocolate, get a few blankets, and just put on a movie and you have a night of relaxation with friends.

5. Try a New Sport

Winter break can be the time to try something new that you wouldn't have gotten the chance to do during school. Whether it's a winter sport like skiing or snowboarding, or an indoor sport like fencing, winter break can be the perfect time for trying them.

6. Organize Yourself

This doesn't sound exactly like fun necessarily, but once you get yourself organized, it will feel very rewarding in the end. Plus, sitting around in a complete mess would make you feel worse in the long run.

7. Volunteer

Whether you know how to draw or not, letting your creativity soar by drawing a picture of whatever you like can relax you and make you feel good when it's finished.

8. Go to a Museum or a Show

Speaking of learning new things, going to a local museum or a local theatre festival can teach you a lot about performing and visual art. Plus, it's fun and many museums offer discounts at off-peak hours.

With all of these activities to do during the break, I hope you all have an exciting time this winter break.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
