Does it seem to you that, in the 2016 presidential election, you are only choosing between the lesser of two evils and not the greater of two goods? Well, you are not alone. Many people voting in this election find neither of the major party candidates to be desirable. Between Hillary Clinton's shady past and Donald Trump's unstable future, people everywhere are beginning to feel disenfranchised by the outcome of the centuries-old process of American democracy. How is it that we as a nation can be given such great a privilege as democracy yet still find ourselves in such a distressing situation as we are currently in? Why do we find ourselves being suffocated by the very thing that is supposed to give us liberty?
The idea that we got ourselves into this situation is immensely disappointing, especially to new voters like myself. All of my elders have told me that this is the worst election they have ever witnessed, and I actually have no problem believing them at this point. Despite my overwhelming sense of pride in my country, I cannot seem to get over the predicament in which we've found ourselves. In our nation's search for stability and peace, we've managed to strangle ourselves with the democracy we fight so hard to preserve.
But fear not, for our founding fathers designed our government in such a way that, even in these dismal circumstances, we can have the hope of a better future. We can rest assured that these situations, no matter how horrible, are only temporary. During every election, there is always a fear that the elected candidate will secretly destroy America, and they never do. We are given the ability to elect someone else in only four years. No matter who becomes our president, we will always have the option to replace them. If you are feeling just as disenfranchised by this election as I am, you can also be at peace knowing the future is still in our hands, all we have to do is wait.
